The Invasion of Ukraine – I

—————————————

The lack of leadership to face the Russian boss.

The New York Times Opinion Columnist Ross Douthat published the article “Vladimir Putin’s Clash of Civilizations”, in which he pointed a series of aspect related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Let's summarize the main topics of the columnist's text. When the US went to war in the Middle East in 2003, Vladimir Putin criticized American ambition. Now, with the invasion of Ukraine, Putin is taking a more sinister version of this American action. In fact, Putin is being sincere when he complains about the NATO siege of Russia. It is possible that Putin just assumes that the West is so decaying that he has a great opportunity to answer for the siege. Perhaps Huntington's idea of the clash of civilizations (in a way embraced by Narenda Modi's India; and Xi Jiping's China) confronted with Putin's adventurous escalation will lead to strong European continental cohesion. And last but not the least, Douthat suggests the possibility that Putin, in the future, will deal with the problems of victory – or not, in the case of his defeat.

It appears that Mr. Douthat has deliberately ignored an essential topic.

Napoleon, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Xi Jiping, Putin and others could never be faced by weak leaders. The clash of civilization against stupidity – i. e., of the democrats against the barbarians — can only be accomplished by the enlightened word, supported by a more powerful force, commanded by strong leaders, capable of facing and defeating them. Remember Nelson, Roosevelt, Churchill, De Gaulle, Reagan, Thatcher and John Paul II.
